Volunteers are essential to the services provided by OGA. Depending upon an individual’s desire, there are numerous opportunities within the OGA.
Oklahoma Golf Association is licensed by the USGA to determine the course rating and slope rating for courses across Oklahoma and volunteers are trained to perform these ratings.
In addition, volunteers are needed at Championships to serve as marshals, starters, pace-of-play officials, scoring officials, and many other important roles at each event. It is a great opportunity to gain valuable behind-the-scenes experience in all facets of golf administration. OGA provides on the initial on the job training for these types of roles.
For those interested in the Rules of Golf, OGA uses volunteer Rules Officials at our Championships to assist players with Rules situations. Rules Officials are appointed by the OGA based on their knowledge of the Rules of Golf and their experience in officiating. Experience varies and there is always a Lead Official on the radio to assist less experienced volunteers. Volunteer Rules officials are expected to become proficient in the Rules of Golf including attendance at a USGA / PGA rules workshop, which are conducted each year.
Volunteer training is initially provided by OGA with additional training available depending upon an individual’s commitment.
If you believe you have an interest to become a volunteer for OGA, please contact Executive Director, Mark Felder or a member of the Board of Directors who can answer your questions about being a volunteer.
