A strong and steady two-day performance propelled Jamie Voegeli of Tulsa and Tyler Hunt of Tulsa to victory in the Championship Division at the 40th Oklahoma Golf Association Four-Ball Championship, finishing at 7-under-par 133.
The duo opened with a 5-under 65 and followed it up with a 2-under 68 in the final round, holding off a tightly packed leaderboard to secure the title by one shot. Their consistent play across both rounds proved to be the difference in a field where multiple teams remained in contention into the final day.
Finishing just behind at 6-under-par 134 were Stephen Carney of Broken Arrow and Jacob Newsom of Tulsa, who matched the champions with a pair of rounds in the 60s (66-68) but came up one stroke short.
A four-way tie for third place at 4-under-par 136 highlighted the depth of the competition. Teams of Colton Staggs/Preston Wilkins (Broken Arrow/Tulsa), Mike Hearne/Kyle Hudelson (Yukon/Edmond), Benjamin Bench/Samuel Bradford (Yukon/Oklahoma City), and Lance Maxwell/Chase Lindsey (Norman/Moore) all posted strong two-round totals to share the position.
The Senior Division of the 40th Oklahoma Golf Association Four-Ball Championship delivered a competitive finish as Michael Hughett of Owasso and Mike Gotcher of Broken Arrow claimed the title in dramatic fashion after a five-hole playoff.
Hughett and Gotcher surged into contention with a stellar final-round 64, the low round of the championship, to match the 36-hole total of 133 (-7) posted by first-round leaders Shawn Barker and Terry Hughes of Bartlesville. Barker and Hughes followed their opening 66 with a 67, holding the lead until the final hole when Gotcher’s birdie on the final hole forced a playoff.
Hughett’s birdie on the fifth playoff hole secured the Senior Division title, securing his 25th OGA title.
Just one shot back, Bill Bishop and Dustin Wigington of Oklahoma City finished solo third at 134 (-6) after rounds of 67-67, staying within striking distance throughout but unable to join the playoff.
Cory Smith and Lewis Stephenson of Edmond finished fourth at 137 (-3), while Tulsa’s Michael Alsup and Brad Nelligan rounded out the top five at 138 (-2).
