USGA Championships
The United States Golf Association (USGA) conducts two premier national championships specifically for junior golfers: the U.S. Junior Amateur and the U.S. Girls’ Junior. These events are among the most prestigious junior golf competitions in the United States and attract top amateur players from across the country and abroad.
U.S. Junior Amateur Championship: Open to amateur boys under age 19 with a low Handicap Index®, this championship begins with stroke play followed by match play to crown a national champion. It has helped launch the careers of future professional stars and dates back to 1948.
U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship: Started in 1949, this event follows a similar format for amateur girls under age 19 and has a legacy of notable champions who went on to success at the collegiate and professional levels.
Winning these championships is a significant achievement in junior golf and often leads to exemptions into higher-level USGA events, like the U.S. Open or U.S. Women’s Open for the respective champions. Unless exempt, players must earn a spot in the field through local qualifiers.
