Jacob Newsom of Tulsa and Gray Gerloff of Freedom captured the boys’ and girls’ titles, respectively, at the OJGT Bailey Ranch Bash at Bailey Ranch Golf Club on September 12-13.
Newsom put together an impressive two-round performance, opening with an 8-under-par 64 before following with a 6-under 66 to finish at 14-under-par 130. He finished six strokes ahead of Oklahoma City’s Christopher Crawford, who posted rounds of 68-68 for a 136 total. Coleman Sides of Tulsa and Grady Thompson of Edmond tied for third at 5-under 139.
In the girls’ division, Gerloff finished at 4-over-par 148 to earn the victory. After opening with a 72, Gerloff carded a 4-over 76 in the final round to finish two strokes ahead of Kylie Fisher of Tahlequah, who closed with a 2-under 70 to finish at 150. Bixby’s Dia Singh placed third at 7-over 151, while Lorelai Efaw of Tulsa finished fourth at 153.
The tournament schedule was significantly impacted by weather on Saturday, with a 2½-hour delay interrupting the opening round. As a result, Round 1 could not be completed until Sunday morning, creating a demanding final day for the field as players completed the first round before returning to the course for the final round.
The Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour would like to extend a special thank you to the Bailey Ranch Golf Club staff for their flexibility, patience and willingness to work with the OJGT throughout the weather delays. Their cooperation was instrumental in allowing the event to be completed successfully.
