OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Collin Bond of Norman claimed the 114th Oklahoma State Amateur Championship on Thursday morning, defeating Benjamin Stoller of Owasso, 4 & 2, in the championship match at Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club. Bond’s victory caps an impressive week of golf, as he navigated stroke-play qualifying before winning five consecutive match-play contests to earn Oklahoma’s most prestigious amateur title.
The championship began with an 18-hole stroke-play qualifier that determined the 32-player match-play bracket. Over the next three days, competitors battled through multiple rounds in challenging midsummer conditions, with temperatures climbing into the triple digits throughout much of the week. Despite the demanding heat, the state’s top amateurs showcased outstanding golf in pursuit of the historic championship.
Bond advanced through a talented field, including a semifinal victory over C.J. Phillips to earn his place in the championship match. Across the bracket, Stoller produced an equally impressive run, defeating reigning OGA Mid-Amateur Champion Blake Trimble in the semifinals after surviving a hard-fought quarterfinal match against Cameron Cheek.
In Thursday’s final, Bond steadily built his advantage with a 4 up lead after opening nine 31. Ben was able to close the gap by Hole 14 when the advantage was only 2 UP. But then Collin made a birdie on 15 then drained an eagle on 16 to ultimately close out a 4 & 2 victory to secure the championship. The Oklahoma State Cowboy adds the Oklahoma State Amateur title to an already impressive amateur résumé and becomes the newest name etched into the championship’s storied history.
The Oklahoma Golf Association extends its sincere appreciation to Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club for serving as an outstanding host of the 114th Oklahoma State Amateur Championship. The championship-caliber course conditions, exceptional hospitality, and dedicated club staff provided a tremendous stage for Oklahoma’s premier amateur golf championship.
