2024 Changes

Every year, we are looking at ways to improve our offerings for golfers in Oklahoma. Based on feedback, the OGA will be making the following changes to our tournament offerings in 2024:

Oklahoma Golf Association

Oklahoma State Amateur

  • Exemptions from Qualifying added
    1. State Amateur Champions from Past 5 Years
    2. Runner Up from Prior Year State Amateur
    3. Past 2 Champions in the Following Events (Could be Current Year or Prior 2 Years Depending on Schedule):
      Stroke Play Championship
      Junior Boys State Junior
      Mid-Amateur
    4. Past Champions in the Following Events (Could be Current Year or Prior Year Depending on Schedule):
      Senior State Amateur
      Senior Stroke Play Championship
    5. Previous Year OGA Player of the Year
    6. Previous Year OGA Senior Player of the Year
    7. Low Amateur from the Prior Year Oklahoma Open
    8. Prior Year Qualifiers for the US Amateur
    9. Highest 10 ranked players according to WAGR Rankings as of June 1 Who Meet Eligibility Requirements
    10. Special Exemptions As Approved by the OGA Board of Directors
  • Ties will no longer be broken for final spots at Qualifying tournaments. Any ties for final spot will move on to Championship site.
  • Day #1 at Championship site will be a stroke play qualifier. Top 32 will advance to Match Play portion. Ties for Final Match Play position will be broken using sudden death playoff.
  • Match play will be over three days (Day #1 – 32 &16, Day #2 – Quarters & Semis, Day #3 – Finals)

Creation of a Fall Four-Ball Net

The Oklahoma Golf Association will offer a Net Four-Ball Championship. The event will be a one-day event in the fall, and the format is Four-Ball Stroke Play (85% HDCP). Event will be broken into the following divisions: Championship, Senior (50+), and Women’s.

Creation of Red River Rivalry Cup Matches

We are partnering with the Texas Golf Association to create the Red River Rivalry Cup Matches. The event will be a two-day, Ryder Cup style format. Day #1 will be Four-Ball & Foursomes, and Day #2 will be Singles Matches. Team from each state will be comprised of 8 Mid-Amateur, 6 Senior Amateurs, and 4 Women Mid-Amateurs.

Carts Included

Carts will now be included with your entry in the following events:

  • Spring Four-Ball
  • Senior State Amateur
  • Senior Stroke Play
  • Mid-Amateur
  • Oklahoma Open
  • Fall Four-Ball Net

Oklahoma Open – 20 College Registrations Eliminated

College exemptions for the first 20 registrants has been eliminated. It has been replaced with the following exemptions:

  1. Highest 10 ranked players on an Oklahoma college or university according to WAGR Rankings as of July 15 who meet eligibility requirements
  2. Current Year OGA State Amateur Champion, Runner Up, & Semifinalists
  3. Current Year Low 3 Finishers & Ties in the OGA Stroke Play Championsip
  4. Current Year OGA Spring Four-Ball Champions in the Championship Division
  5. Current Year Low 2 Finishers & Ties in the OGA Mid-Amateur Championship
  6. Current Year OGA Junior Boys 16-18 Division Champion
  7. Current Year OGA Senior State Amateur Champion
  8. Current Year OGA Senior Stroke Play Champion
  9. Current Year OJGT Oak Tree Junior Classic Champion
  10. Low Amateur from the Prior Year Oklahoma Open
  11. Previous Year OGA Player of the Year
  12. Previous Year OGA Senior Player of the Year
  13. Special Exemptions As Approved by the OGA Board of Directors

Amateurs not exempt above will have to advance through Amateur qualifying.

Gift Certificate Payouts

Gift certificates for amateur events will pay 20% of the field.

OJGT

Priority Registration

Priority registration will be given to players in the following categories:

  • Past Champion in an OJGT Event
  • Top 30 Prior Year Boys Player of Year
  • Top 20 Prior Year Girls Player of Year
  • Red River Participant in Prior Year

Players in these categories will be given two weeks (January 1 at 9 AM – January 15 at 8:59 AM) to register for events. Starting January 15th at 9 am, registration will be first come, first serve open to everyone. OJGT membership registration will open January 1 for all.

Welcome Packs

Welcome packs will be provided to all players joining the OJGT. Items include towel, bag tag, and other items TBA.

Membership Fee Increase

Membership fee for OJGT is raised to $100. No change in 2024 for entry fees for individual events.

Red River Format Change

Red River team format will be four-ball stroke play (i.e. two from OJGT vs. two from TJGT in same pairing). Team with lower score receives a point, 1/2 point for a tie.

Southern Junior Cup Rejoin

Oklahoma Golf Association will rejoin the Southern Junior Cup in 2024. Event will be hosted by Alabama Golf Assocition at Robert Trent Jones – Fighting Joe Course on July 31-August 1. 6 Boys and 6 Girls will represent the state of Oklahoma. Players must be a resident of Oklahoma to participate.

Summer OJGT Offering

OJGT will offer a summer event, July 1-2 at Oakwood Country Club in Enid.
